Surface mounted
Something surface mounted is something fixed or mounted to a surface, often in contrast to something being recessed, or flush fitting. The term will often be used in connection with electrical installations, referring to whether or not electrical cables are set into tubes or boxes (conduit) and then surface mounted on to a wall or recessed into the wall (referred to as chasing). Other construction elements may also be referred to as surface mounted, such as pattress boxes, ceiling tiles, cameras, lights and sensors.
Surface-mount technology (SMT) refers to the surface mounting of chips or electrical component parts on to a circuit board which may be printed (PCB).
